Thursday 21st September, 7.30pm
Dr Ceri Jones from the Museum Studies Department of Leicester University talks about the effects of museums upon society.
It is hard to imagine a world without museums, but with continuing funding cuts museums face diminishing resources, loss of expert staff and even closure, as for example at Snibston. This is despite the growing body of evidence that museums benefit society in a number of ways through providing public spaces for learning and provoking inspiring, challenging and thought-provoking experiences. How can we use this evidence to ensure that museums remain relevant for the future? Dr Jones reflects on 15 years of working with museums to think about how museums can continue to be beneficial in a changing world.
